K’s Choice is a Belgian rock band, founded in 1994 by siblings Sam and Gert Bettens. Originally named “The Choice,” they changed it to K’s Choice to avoid legal conflicts with another band. Known for their blend of alternative rock and folk influences, the band gained international recognition with their second album Paradise in Me (1995), which included the hit single “Not an Addict.” This song became a breakout success, reaching the top of modern rock charts in the U.S.
Their early albums, including The Great Subconscious Club (1994) and Cocoon Crash (1998), established them as a significant force in European rock. K’s Choice took an indefinite hiatus in 2003 but reunited in 2009, releasing new music such as Echo Mountain (2010) and The Phantom Cowboy (2015), which explored a heavier rock sound.
In addition to music, Sam Bettens publicly came out as transgender in 2019, transitioning from Sarah to Sam, which has influenced his artistic journey. The band continues to perform and celebrate major milestones, such as their 30th anniversary tour in 2023.
